DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP:  The bulk of Southern business took place 
mostly on Wednesday with live deals marked at $177 to $182, mostly 
$181, generally steady with last week's weighted averages. The 
majority of Northern dressed sales took place on Friday with a full 
range of $287 to $294, mostly $288, roughly steady with last week's 
weighted averages. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter 
Cattle Negotiated Purchase Summary reports, weekly accumulated 
totals were as follows, (the prior week's weighted averages are 
listed in parentheses). KS $180.18($180.97); NE $292.72($287.66); TX 
$181.00 ($181.00); IA $293.21($287.30); CO not available due to 
confidentiality. Due to the late Northern trade weighted averages 
will likely be somewhat lower when summaries come out later this 
morning.

The Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists 
week-to-date trade volume totals as: KS 5,246; NE 9,542; TX 3,388, 
IA 9,254; CO NA due to confidentiality. Friday's slaughter totaled 
118,000 head, 5,000 less than the prior week, and 3,000 below a year 
ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at 17,000 head, bringing the 
weekly total to 620,000 head, 78,000 more than the previous week, 
but 11,000 under 2023. The weekly average for boxed beef cutouts and 
boxed beef cuts: choice $307.24(-3.56), select $295.94(-2.16), with 
an average choice select spread of $11.30(-1.40), and a total load 
count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 743(+199), (Changes 
from the prior week are listed in parentheses). 

For the week ending September 07, 2024, Imported Beef Passed for 
Entry in the U.S. totaled 41,626, 81.75% of the previous week and 
85.72% of the 4-week average. 

DTN MORNING COMMENTS: Both buyers and sellers are busy preparing for 
the week ahead. It will likely be a typical Monday with bids and 
asking prices not established. Significant trade volume will likely 
be delayed until the second half of the week. Beef cutouts are 
expected to be lower with generally light box movement.
